Craig Gordon has explained why summer signing Moussa Dembele has been the most fined player within the Celtic squad this season, the Evening Times reports.

The 20-year-old has made a brilliant start to life with the Hoops on the pitch. After appearing to struggle in his first handful of games, Dembele has certainly found his feet in recent times.

He has, so far, scored 12 goals in just 17 games for the Bhoys in all competitions, including a hat-trick in the first Old Firm meeting of the season and a brace in the exhilarating 3-3 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League.

Nevertheless, Gordon has claimed that the former Fulham starlet has struggled to stay out of trouble off the pitch, but insisted that the attitude that gets him in trouble in training is crucial to his success on the pitch.

“He is the guy in the team who is fined the most because he is so laid-back he keeps forgetting the rules. He is just a very relaxed guy and I think you can see that during games as well,” he said, as reported by the Evening Times.

“He keeps his head and he keeps his composure.

“But if he can keep doing what he is doing then I don’t think anyone will worry too much about the way he keeps forgetting what time training is or where the meetings are.”

Very few would have expected Dembele to become a genuine contender for Leigh Griffiths’ spot in the team within a few months of his arrival when he was first signed.

However, the start he has made means that Brendan Rodgers arguably now has two top forwards to choose from. And, as Gordon suggests, if Dembele can maintain his form in the coming months, it is unlikely that anyone will be too concerned about how many fines the boss has to hand the youngster.
