Leeds United ran out convincing 3-1 winners against Birmingham City on Friday.
Birmingham’s Craig Gardner in action against Leeds
Blues midfielder Craig Gardner scored his first goal since making his return to St Andrews during his side’s 3-1 defeat to Leeds on Friday night, and shared what he told Whites goalkeeper Robert Green in the tunnel after the game, as quoted by the Birmingham Mail.
The 30-year-old scored a dramatic winner against Green when Birmingham took on West Ham United in the 2011 League Cup semi final – something that he did not want the Whites stopper to forget any time soon.
Gardner spoke to the Birmingham Mail, and shared what he told Green as the two sides left the field of play following the visitors impressive 3-1 victory:
“I said to Rob Green in the tunnel that it was a bit of deja vu from the semi-final. He just looked at me, I don’t think he liked it. He’s got the last laugh because they beat us but we’re improving and you can see we’re a team that’s going forward.”
Robert Green of Leeds United
Garry Monk’s men are in the midst of a really strong run of form, and after Brighton & Hove Albion’s defeat at Nottingham Forest yesterday, they find themselves just seven points adrift of an automatic promotion place.
Gianfranco Zola’s side, meanwhile, continue their slide down the table, and are sitting precariously in 17th position in the Championship table.
And the two sides’ contrasting fortunes makes Gardner’s attempted dig towards Green just seem a little bit insignificant and irrelevant to say the least.
