The West Ham United linked goalkeeper hasn’t kicked a ball in the Premier League this season.
Craig Burley has told ESPN that West Ham United should move for out-of-favour Chelsea goalkeeper Asmir Begovic in January.
Slaven Bilic’s side have shipped 29 Premier League goals in 14 appearances following the 5-1 home defeat by Arsenal on Saturday evening.
The Irons’ rearguard has come under scrutiny as a result and The Mail reported that they are interested in signing 29-year-old from their West London rivals.
Adrian was displaced by Darren Randolph following a number of errors by the Spaniard earlier in the season, though it remains to be seen whether the Republic of Ireland stopper is a viable long-term solution for the London outfit.
The Mail went on to suggest that Bilic has lost faith in Randolph, hence his reported interest in the former Stoke City keeper, who joined the Blues in 2015.
And Burley has urged the Croatian manager to do the business this winter.
Asked by ESPN if it’d be a good fit, Burley said: “Yeah, I think it would. This guy, at one point, they were talking about being the next big thing when he was at Stoke.
“He lost his way a little so he needs to get playing again and West Ham need to shore up their defence and goalkeeping. He’s a quality keeper.”
Begovic has not kicked a ball for Antonio Conte’s side this season, playing second fiddle to Thibaut Courtois, but he is indeed a fine keeper and the Hammers should definitely consider swooping for him in January.
