Rangers have been tipped to move to lure Steve Clarke to Ibrox this summer.

Pundit Craig Burley has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Kilmarnock boss Steve Clarke should be a ‘shoo-in’ to become the next Rangers manager this summer.

The Gers parted ways with Pedro Caixinha back in October after a torrid six-month spell at Ibrox, in which Rangers backed the Portuguese boss heavily in the transfer market, with little to show for it.

Graeme Murty was again promoted as interim manager until the end of the season after a December move for Derek McInnes failed, and he has largely impressed in the job.

However, Murty is a rookie and has claimed just one point from the last three games, sparking suggestions that Rangers could yet look elsewhere for a manager this summer.

One popular name has been Steve Clarke, who has excelled in charge of Kilmarnock since taking the job back in October, losing just three of his 26 games as Killie boss.

The 54-year-old took a major gamble by taking the Kilmarnock job, given that it was something of a drop for him having previously managed West Bromwich Albion and Reading in England.

Now, Clarke’s stock has never been higher after remarkable work on a budget at Rugby Park, and major ESPN pundit Craig Burley has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Clarke is the clear candidate to become Rangers boss.

Burley believes that Rangers moving for Clarke is a ‘no-brainer’ as he should the a ‘shoo-in’ for the job having not only excelled on a budget at Kilmarnock, but also coached at a high level and managed in the Premier League.

“For what he’s done at Kilmarnock, he should be a shoo-in for the Rangers job,” said Burley. “If they want a manager who’s got experience at clubs like Chelsea, Newcastle, Liverpool and West Ham, taken West Brom into the top half of the Premiership and now done well in Scotland, who else do they look at?”

“To me, it’s a no-brainer. You’ll get the halfwits who’ll object because he was a Celtic fan as a kid, but do they want someone who has a proven record or don’t they? If he can do what he’s done at Kilmarnock with what they’ve got in terms of players and budgets, what could he do at Rangers?” he added.
