West Ham United threw away a two-goal lead on Saturday.
Craig Burley has told ESPN that Dimitri Payet may be regretting his decision to stay with West Ham United following Saturday’s 4-2 home defeat by Watford.
The 29-year-old dazzled for parts of the Hammers’ defeat at the weekend and set up both of West Ham’s goals, which were scored by Michail Antonio in the first half.
The second assist, in particular, was a thing of real beauty as his sublime rabona cross was met at the back post by Antonio’s head, but it was overshadowed by the fact that Slaven Bilic’s side threw away their two-goal lead at the Olympic Stadium.
They have now lost three and won one of their first four Premier League games. Payet – who made his first start of the season on Saturday – was linked with the likes of Chelsea and Real Madrid during the summer.
And Burley wonders whether or not he would not leave, if he could turn back time.
“Payet was great, but that’s not the story. He might be thinking, ‘Maybe I should’ve took my chance and tried to move in the summer’ because it could be a difficult season now for West Ham,” he told ESPN.
Irons fans won’t have been surprised to see such a moment of magic from their hero, given his excellent first season with the London outfit last term.
The Frenchman’s stock has risen quite a bit over the last 12 months, becoming a real fan favourite in the process.
