The Everton player played to full 90 minutes as his country went down 3-0 to Brazil in World Cup 2018 qualification.

ESPN pundit Craig Burley was not impressed by the performance of Everton defender Ramiro Funes Mori in Argentina’s loss against Brazil.

The Albiceleste were on the receiving end of a 3-0 humiliation in Belo Horizonte overnight, with Liverpool’s Philippe Coutinho on target to compound Funes Mori’s misery.

The 25-year-old has started four times for Everton in this season’s Premier League but remains a regular on the international scene, starting 15 of Argentina’s last 17 matches.

According to former national team captain Daniel Passarella, Funes Mori should be given the armband over Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

It is doubtful, however, that Burley would concur.

“Funis Mori in the Argentina side tonight and surprise at their bad defending,” the former Scotland midfielder posted on Twitter.

Funes Mori arrived at Everton last summer in a reported £11 million deal from River Plate, but is yet to properly convince at Goodison Park.

John Stones’ sale to Manchester City offered brief hope to the South American, although he appears to be behind Ashley Williams, who replaced the England international, in Ronald Koeman’s thoughts.

Last month Funes Mori told La Nacion he will consider his options if he cannot break in soon.
