Tottenham Hotspur are 11 points behind the top-of-the-table Blues.
Craig Burley has told ESPN that he does not believe Tottenham Hotspur have enough “bottle” to achieve anything this season.
Spurs suffered their first Premier League defeat of the campaign on Saturday when Chelsea came from a goal down to record a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge.
Christian Eriksen’s effort was chalked off by Pedro on the stroke of half time, before Victor Moses grabbed a second-half winner for the league leaders.
Their last-gasp 3-2 victory at home to West Ham last weekend remains as Tottenham’s only win from any of their last 10 matches in all competitions.
It has been a tough few weeks for Mauricio Pochettino, whose side have been eliminated from the League Cup and the Champions League, while 11 points now separate them from Chelsea at the summit.
With Arsenal winning on Sunday, Tottenham are also four points adrift of the top four and it remains to be seen if that gap will increase or decrease in the coming weeks.
One man backing them to “choke” is Burley, who says Pochettino’s side will struggle to achieve anything of note this season.
He told ESPN: “Pochettino has more questions than answers. This is a Spurs side that can look good on the eye, but they lack the real bottle for the battle and we’ll probably see them choking this year once again.”
Burley’s reference to ‘choking’ is perhaps related to their end-of-season capitulation last season, in which they not only failed to derail Leicester City’s title bid, but they also allowed Arsenal to finish above them – what seemed unthinkable just a week or two before the end of the season.
