Craig Burley has told ESPN that he expects Dimitri Payet to quit West Ham United in January, and believes a move to another Premier League side is an option.

The 29-year-old has netted only once in nine league outings so far, having scored 12 times in all competitions during a superb debut season with the East London club last term.

He does have four assists already this season, but there is the sense that he, and indeed West Ham in general, are not the force they were under Slaven Bilic, winning three of their opening 11 league outings.

The Standard reported that a “top European club” could come in for the France international this winter, with Paris Saint-Germain – who were linked with him in the summer – among the clubs named.

But although Burley does believe he will leave the Hammers this winter, the Scot says he could even join another Premier League side.

He told ESPN: “West Ham did well to hang on to him – especially after last season and the Euros. But he’s got to be disappointed about how things have done there.

“He’s 29 and he doesn’t want to be down at the bottom of the Premier League. He’s got to get out of there and get out quick, but I fancy him going to a Premier League team.

“I’m going to say he is going to leave, but not to PSG.”

West Ham fans would hate to see him go, given his popularity and not to mention his class, but the positive point is that the club would rake in serious money for him based on the fact that his contract does not expire until 2021.
