According to a poll, there is only five better managers in the world than the current Tottenham Hotspur boss.
According to a poll by ESPN, Tottenham Hotspur’s Mauricio Pochettino is the sixth best manager in world football at the moment, but pundit Craig Burley said the list was “clueless”.
Tottenham are five points behind Premier League leaders Liverpool at the moment and have not won any of their last eight games in all competitions.
Spurs could have gone into this season as defending champions, but a late capitulation last term helped Claudio Ranier’s Leicester City – who were 5,000-1 shots – win the title, with Pochettino’s side finishing third, below Arsenal, in the end.
The Argentine manager is listed above Ranieri, and even Chelsea and former Juventus boss Antonio Conte, in a poll which Burley says just does not make much sense to him.
He told ESPN: “Why is Pochettino above Ranieri? Tell me what Mauricio Pochettino has won. I’ll tell you – nothing. Ranieri has won the league. Antonio Conte was below him and he’s won three Scudettos. It doesn’t make sense. Clueless.”
The Tottenham boss, 44, is certainly one of the best young managers in football, but the truth is that he is the only man on the list who hasn’t won anything major in his managerial career.
Pep Guardiola finished top, while Diego Simeone and Jurgen Klopp came in at second and third respectively. Carlo Ancelotti and Luis Enrique rank fourth and fifth, while Pochettino, in sixth, finished above Jose Mourinho, Ranieri, Conte and Arsene Wenger in 10th.
