Celtic are searching for a new manager having parted ways with Neil Lennon last week following a 1-0 defeat at Ross County.

Lennon tendered his resignation after a dismal campaign, in which dreams of a tenth league title in a row have turned into a nightmare.

Rangers are closing in on the league title, and Celtic now need to try and rebuild under a new manager next season and beyond.

A host of names have been linked so far, but one we haven’t heard much about is that of Frank Lampard following his exit from Chelsea.

The Blues sacked Lampard in January in order to bring in Thomas Tuchel, with Lampard struggling to make a host of new signings gel.

Celtic could be interested in Lampard, and that would see him go up against former England international team-mate Steven Gerrard in the Old Firm battle.

Now, ex-Scotland boss Craig Brown has told The Scottish Sun that he thinks Lampard would be a ‘big name’ appointment and would really get people talking.

Brown isn’t put off by Lampard being sacked by Chelsea, and feels that the Bhoys would be a ‘wonderful experience’ for Lampard after losing his job at Stamford Bridge.

“It’s a dilemma for the Celtic board,” said Brown. “If you are looking at someone to make a headline and give supporters something to talk about, a big name, then you would be looking at someone like Frank Lampard.”

“I don’t know him as a coach at all, but he’d be a similar level reputation-wise to Steven Gerrard. Lampard was sacked by Chelsea, but that’s not necessarily a condemnation because Sir Alex Ferguson was sacked at St Mirren. It happens. Celtic would be a wonderful experience for someone like Lampard,” he added.
