Craig Bellamy has suggested that he has always felt that Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is destined to move to Barcelona.
Craig Bellamy has told The Debate on Sky Sports (broadcast on 8th November 2017 from 22:00) that he always felt that Christian Eriksen was destined for a move to Barcelona, but now feels that Tottenham may be able to convince him to stay with the Premier League side.
Eriksen has arguably been one of the most influential Spurs players over the last few years, often providing the seamless link between the solid defence and attacking players.
He has provided a staggering 40 assists in the top flight since joining Tottenham, and his form at the start of this campaign suggests that he, like Spurs, may enjoy his best year yet under Mauricio Pochettino.
But Bellamy has suggested that he has always thought of the Dane as a player that is destined to join one of the La Liga giants – though he admitted that he is not quite so sure now that Tottenham seem to have the potential to match any ambitions he may have.
“I’d just seen that as a similar move. I can see him being at Spurs for a certain period and then Real Madrid or Barcelona because I believe his quality is that high. Spurs are on a different path now compared to where they’ve been in recent years so they might be able to prevent that.”
It would be a major statement for Pochettino if he manages to keep players like Eriksen, as well as the likes of Harry Kane and Dele Alli – who will also surely attract attention from some of the world’s best clubs – at Tottenham for the best years of their careers.
That should give Spurs a great chance of capitalising on their current promise, especially as signing players will be a lot easier when they see the teammates that they will be playing alongside when they arrive at Tottenham.
