Craig Bellamy lifts lid on what Liverpool legends Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard used to do before playing Everton

Craig Bellamy knows all about the Merseyside derby rivalry between Everton and Liverpool.

Former Liverpool striker Bellamy has been dubbed the ‘derby master’ ahead of a weekend of derbies in the Premier League including Everton heading to Anfield for the Merseyside clash on Sunday.

Over the course of his career Bellamy played for nine different clubs scoring 135 goals.

During that time the fiery Welsh star played in a host of different derby matches during his career with Norwich, Newcastle, Liverpool, West Ham, Cardiff and Manchester City.

Debate always rages around the Merseyside derby with claims and counter claims about what it means to both clubs.

Liverpool fans claim it means more to the Toffees with their focus on Manchester United.

And speaking as a guest on Sky Sports’ The Debate show, Bellamy revealed what Liverpool legends and former teammates Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard used to say before games against Everton.

“I remember Liverpool – especially games like the FA Cup semi-final – I remember travelling down to London the day before but being next to Jamie Carragher, being next to Steven Gerrard and just the nerves on them,” Bellamy told The Debate.

“These are top players and they’ve seen everything in football, but the nerves on them for that game (against Everton).

“I remember Steven looking at Jamie saying ‘We can’t lose tomorrow, we can’t lose’.

“And I’m just (so taken aback). Look course we all want to win but I’ve never seen them so worried before a game in all the time I spent with them, in all the big games we played in, that’s the most nervous I’ve ever seen them.”
