Managerless Coventry City are interested in Bury boss David Flitcroft as they look to bring in a new manager, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

Flitcroft is regarded as one of the best young coaches in the country and was named League One Manager of the Month for September after guiding Bury to five wins from five games.

Coventry are searching for a new manager to try and transform the club’s fortunes after Tony Mowbray resigned last week following the club’s poor start to the season.

Mowbray quit last week after failing to guide the club to a single win from their opening games, and Mark Venus has been placed in caretaker charge at the Ricoh Arena.

Venus has won his first two games in charge, but he has refused to confirm if he would like the job on a full-time basis.

Since Coventry’s relegation from the Premiership under Gordon Strachan in 2001 the Sky Blues have had 13 managers, and the club are keen to get the right man in charge to try and help the club get back to where it was.

Flitcroft is thought to have admirers in the corridors of power at Coventry with Sky Blues officials impressed with the job he has done at Bury.

Flitcroft has been in charge of Bury since December 2013 and he guided them to promotion to League One in his first full season in charge.

The 42-year-old helped keep them in League One last season and this term Bury are riding high in third spot in the table to fuel hopes of a promotion bid.
