League One strugglers Coventry City are in talks to sign former West Ham United and Chelsea striker Carlton Cole, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.
Cole is currently a free agent and looking for a new club after leaving American side Sacramento Republic last October after a short two-month spell at the club.
The 33-year-old is training at former club West Ham as he looks to maintain his fitness while he weighs up his options over his next move.

The former England international is understood to be talking to several clubs about a possible move, but soures have told HITC Sport that Coventry are pushing hard to try and bring Cole to the Ricoh Arena.
Coventry boss Russell Slade is keen to look into the free agent market to bolster his squad and is also weighing up a move for former Portsmouth, Middlesbrough and Everton striker Yakubu after taking him on trial.
Coventry are currently bottom of League One, five points behind Chesterfield and eight points adrift of safety as they face a real battle to avoid relegation to League Two.

Slade is hoping to persuade Cole to join their battle to stay up, but he faces competition from other clubs for the striker’s signature with Cole assessing all his options before making a decision on his future
Cole, who started his career at Chelsea, made 293 appearances for West Ham, scoring 68 goals and he also won seven caps for England.
