The two midfielders were key to Liverpool and West Ham United this past season.
This past season proved to be one in which the attacking players flourished in the Premier League.
Riyad Mahrez was the star of the show as Leicester City won the most unlikely of Premier League titles, while the likes of Mesut Ozil topped the assist charts.
He was not the only one to star in London either, as Dimitri Payet proved to be the signing of the season for West Ham United.
Indeed, outside of the top four this year he was arguably the best player among the chasing pack.
One man who would contest that is Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho, who once again impressed for the Reds and showed serious improvement under manager Jurgen Klopp.
But which of the two attacking midfielders enjoyed the better campaign? We decided to find out.

As it turns out, Payet was the better as he came out on top in six of the eight key areas we looked at.
That started with goals and assists, as he managed tallies of nine and 12, compared to Coutinho’s totals of eight and five.
The West Ham star also managed more key passes per game and more accurate passes per game than the Brazilian.
That continued when it came to dribbling, too, as the Frenchman registered more touches per game and more won contests per game.
It was not all bad for Coutinho though, as he came out on top in regards to successful final third passes per game and on-target scoring attempts.
