Duffus is said to have declined a contract offer from Everton.

Courtney Duffus could be on the move again – seven months after he left Everton for Oldham Athletic.

According to the Irish Sun, Duffus is due to sign for Waterford FC ahead of the League of Ireland transfer deadline later on Thursday.

The 22-year-old – who made the bench for Everton’s Europa League tie against Young Boys BSC three years ago this week – has only made nine appearances, totalling 140 minutes, for Oldham this season.

And it would appear the League One side are ready to let him leave – although the report does not state whether his transfer would be a permanent or temporary one.

A move to Ireland, for whom Duffus has appeared at Under-21 level, would continue the striker’s swift fall from grace.

It is only last year that David Unsworth, the Everton Under-23s boss, told the Liverpool Echo that Duffus had declined the club’s offer of a new contract, while they also rebuffed an approach from Premier League-bound Brighton & Hove Albion in January 2017.

Duffus though, would be wise to consider any such move as an opportunity to bounce back, following in the footsteps of Keith Fahey, Richie Towell and Sean Maguire, whose League of Ireland success after failed spells in English and Scottish football led to second chances back in the UK.

The Gloucestershire native could follow Sam Byrne to Ireland, after the Everton striker’s loan to Dundalk last week.
