Speaking on the Footballer’s Football Podcast, Callum Wilson has been discussing the injury he sustained against Arsenal on Monday.

The striker had one of his teeth dislodged against the Gunners on Monday in what was a rather gruesome injury, and while Wilson says the incident didn’t leave him in too much pain, he says he was struggling on the pitch after that moment.

Indeed, Wilson says that his tooth was causing him so much discomfort that he could barely breathe or talk on the pitch, but after some amateur surgery at half-time, he came out all guns blazing in the second-half.

What’s been said?

Wilson discussed his injury on the podcast.

“Do you know what, it didn’t actually hurt as much as it looked. The photo looks a lot worse than it was, it was a case of trying to put it back into place and playing on in the second half,” Wilson said.

“I had to play the end of the first half and I couldn’t really breathe and I couldn’t talk, even when I was trying to spit it was catching, so at half-time, we had to push it back up and play the second-half with a gumshield, and I need to play with a gumshield more often because that second-half was inspired,” Wilson said.

Incredible mentality

We can only commend Wilson for not only playing on after this incident but for playing so well.

The striker was absolutely fantastic in that second-half against Arsenal, and he put in that performance after losing a tooth and struggling to breathe on the pitch.

Wilson showed great mental strength to recover, and the fact that he did it at this point of the season with nothing really to play for just goes to show how hungry he is to prove himself after returning from injury.

Wilson deserves a lot of credit for his showing on Monday.
