Will Leeds United and Nottingham Forest live to regret not signing Swansea City-bound Yan Dhanda?
The 19-year-old is a highly-rated prospect from the Reds’ academy and it looks like the Swans are wasting no time in building a team capable of winning promotion straight back to the Premier League this time next year.
Interestingly, Dhanda is already known to several Championship clubs, and it probably wouldn’t be a great look for, say, Leeds United or Nottingham Forest if he dazzles in the second tier next season.
The Daily Mail reported last August that Leeds and Forest were keen on versatile teenager, who can play on either wing and central midfield.
Liverpool loaned out plenty of young players last summer and in January, and the fact that Dhanda was not among the loanees indicates that Leeds and the City Ground club might not have believed in him.
Considering the Whites in particular wasted a lot of resources on sub-par players last summer, it would be a terrible reflection on United’s Director of Football Victor Orta if Dhanda were to light up the Championship.
The obvious question would be why Leeds and other second-tier sides didn’t make more of an effort to sign him, and maybe Elland Road, not the Liberty Stadium, would be his probable destination now instead.
That being said, the Championship is a notoriously difficult division and there is just as much evidence so far to suggest that he may struggle, but Nottingham Forest and the West Yorkshire side could and should feel a little bashful if the opposite happens.
