Could Wolverhampton Wanderers move for Ross McCormack?
Ross McCormack’s Aston Villa future is in doubt with The Mirror reporting he could be sold in January, just months after signing from Fulham.
Villa are unlikely to sell to a promotion rival, which would immediately rule out the likes of Newcastle, Norwich, and even McCormack’s former club Leeds.

This does not leave them with many options, with clubs lower down the table also expected to struggle to afford to match the £12 million Villa paid for McCormack in the summer and are likely to want to recoup.
One club who could are Midlands rivals Wolves, who were taken over in the summer by super rich Chinese investors Fosun International.
Wolves bought ambitiously in the summer, adding players in from Portugal, Holland and France, but have found it tough going, with August managerial appointment Walter Zenga sacked and replaced with Paul Lambert.

McCormack could be tempted to link up with his fellow Scot and Wolves are in need of a striker.
Villa may be reticent to sell McCormack to a local rival, but at the same time if they want to recoup the money and ensure the striker does not join a promotion competitor, Wolves could be their best option of the teams in the lower half of the table.
For Villa the incentive to sell McCormack would be to reinvest the substantial funds into signing another striker, say a Jordan Rhodes or Abel Hernandez.

Wolves have ambitions to win promotion themselves, but currently sitting in 20th place, two points above the relegation zone, it is a tough ask to expect them to do so this season.
Villa are only four points better off, but they are placing more pressure upon themselves to get into the play-offs, while Wolves is more of a project, and McCormack could play a key role in their rejuvenation.
