Nottingham Forest have surprisingly released Dani Pinillos according to reports – meaning Wolverhampton Wanderers could nab him on the free.

Dani Pinillos may have featured in just 35 league games for Nottingham Forest during two injury-hit seasons at the City Ground but that does not mean the fans will not mourn his exit.

According to the BBC, manager Mark Warburton has made the decision to release the Spaniard in the summer when his contract expires, though lauding his work-rate and his commitment to the Championship giants.

Forest have made countless transfer decisions ranging from the questionable to the downright baffling in recent years and, although Pinillos had his fair share of defensive deficiencies, letting him go on a free will leave a number of fans scratching their heads.

Pinillos, who sent the City Ground into raptures by bulleting home 94th minute equaliser against Derby County in Warburton’s first game in charge, is only 24 years of age and has bags of potential.

Therefore, whichever club picks him up on a free in the summer could be securing quite the bargain. And with The Sun reporting recently that Wolves were interested, it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that Pinillos could swap red for gold this summer.

After all, Paul Lambert’s side are crying out for a new left-back with Matt Doherty forced to fill in throughout this season after Manchester United loanee Cameron Borthwick-Jackson failed to convince.

Therefore, Pinillos would give Wolves some much needed balance on the left flank – although Doherty has performed with distinction throughout an excellent individual campaign.

And, with youth on his side, Pinillos has plenty of room to grow and if Wolves can coax out that potential that shone through at Forest they could gain one of the league’s most effective full-backs.

The Telegraph reported recently, however, that Wolves’ Chinese owners had given well-connected super-agent Jorge Mendes control over the club’s recruitment – meaning Lambert was considering his future as a result.

However, while it’s not certain where the land lies at Molineux, whoever signs Pinillos certainly knows talent when they see it.
