Ibrox favourite Josh Windass has scored nine goals in five games for Rangers.
Rangers attacker Josh Windass’ form has been electrifying to say the least. Sparkling under the guidance of Graeme Murty, fans are being treated to the best of their number 11 at the moment.
Another hat-trick from the 24-year-old star on Sunday afternoon has taken his tally to nine in five games, as he put Martin Canning’s Hamilton to the sword with three goals – albeit thanks to a huge mistake from keeper Gary Woods for his first.
It was second career hat-trick, just says after scoring a treble against third-tier side Ayr United in a 6-1 Scottish Cup win. Now with 15 goals for the season, as well as eight assists in his 31 games, Windass is right at the top of the pecking order.
Combine that with his new contract that is set to see the former Accrington Stanley star remain at Ibrox until the summer of 2021, it is hard to argue that there is a better player in that Rangers side right now.
Windass’ form will see Murty place his faith in the attacker, after converting him into a striker and a number 10 whereas Pedro Caixinha played him out wide and deeper in midfield.
It pushes everyone down the pecking order by one place, and that should see Murty consider the future of loanee Harry Forrester who continues to prove indifferent on loan with English League One side AFC Wimbledon.
Forrester, 27, has had a hand in nine goals during his 32 appearances for Wimbledon, scoring three times and turning provider on six occasions. But with his long-term future in doubt anyway, Windass’ form could be the final nail in the coffin.
The former Doncaster Rovers ace has less than 18 months remaining on his current deal, entering the final season of a three-and-a-half-year deal he signed in January 2016.
If Windass keeps his form levels at a premium, then surely Forrester will be nothing more than surplus to requirements at Ibrox.
