Leeds United could do with the player currently on loan at Huddersfield Town.
Given that Newcastle United and Brighton and Hove Albion are currently occupying the automatic promotion places in the Championship, the prospect of Leeds United and Huddersfield both going up this season looks slim, even if the latter do have a game in hand over the two teams above them.
While it could come down to a straight battle between the Terriers and the Whites for a place in the top flight, the winners could also directly impact the future of midfielder Aaron Mooy.
The Australian is currently on loan at Huddersfield from Manchester City and he has proved to be one of the canniest signings of the summer, and assuming they go up come May it would be no surprise if the 26-year-old remained for at least another year.
But there is another potential scenario, which could see Mooy head on loan to Elland Road if Leeds beat Huddersfield to a place in the footballing promised land.
After all, Garry Monk’s side may have impressed this season but they need additional quality in the centre of the park if they are to stand any chance of maintaining their Premier League status…assuming they get there.
Mooy is the perfect candidate, and considering his lack of prospects at parent club City, it could be a simple case of whoever goes up gets their man.
Huddersfield will be in pole position, but assuming they fall short and Leeds do not, Monk should do everything in his power to bring the midfielder to Elland Road.
