As West Ham United’s striker search rumbles on, a new problem has emerged.
Aaron Cresswell’s injury means the Hammers are currently devoid of senior left-backs until November at the earliest, with the unfamiliar Sam Byram shoehorned there as a matter of urgency in Thursday’s Europa League defeat to NK Domzale.
Luckily, an unlikely source may have handed an opportunity to Slaven Bilic’s side.
The Daily Mail reports that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho will allow youngster Cameron Borthwick-Jackson to leave on loan this season, and the 19-year-old would be the perfect addition.
Such is Borthwick-Jackson’s promise, he was handed a new four-year deal in May having barely made it to double figures in terms of first-team appearances.
While the nature of the young-full back’s deal – temporary, until the end of the campaign or even January – suits all three parties to a T.
He would gain further experience, United would be getting a better player back and West Ham would not need to fork out on a costly alternative they will not need in a year’s time.
Interest in Borthwick-Jackson is sure to be high, though the presence of former Old Trafford teammate Ashley Fletcher, who trod the same path earlier this summer albeit on a permanent basis, could swing things in the Hammers’ favour.
