West Ham want Leeds ace Chris Wood.
Leeds United’s Chris Wood celebrates
West Ham are competing to sign Leeds United star man Chris Wood after his impressive 27 goal Championship season.
The Mirror report the Hammers are battling Stoke for the striker who is valued in excess of £15 million.
Leeds will want to try and resist offers, so West Ham should consider trying to tempt them further by offering winger Robert Snodgrass in part exchange.
West Ham United’s Robert Snodgrass looks dejected
Snodgrass signed for West Ham from Hull City in January but has not yet won fans over, failing to score for the Hammers in 15 games despite netting seven times in 20 goals for Hull in the first half of the season.
The Scottish winger played for Leeds United between 2008 and 2012, winning a players and fans award double in his final season at the club before he was sold to Norwich City.
Robert Snodgrass celebrates during his time at Leeds
Snodgrass plays in a position in which Leeds are short, failing to get much production out of their wingers this past season.
Loanees Hadi Sacko, Modou Barrow and Alfonso Pedraza were all inconsistent, as was Stuart Dallas, and Snodgrass would be a huge upgrade.
Giving up Chris Wood to get him would be far from ideal, although it might be the only way Leeds could manage it.
All of this would be dependent on Wood’s desire to leave Leeds, which as yet is unclear, and may depend on Garry Monk’s future.
If he pushes for a move to the Premier League, then a cash plus Snodgrass offer is the best deal Leeds could get for his services, and this would give West Ham an edge over competitors Stoke and any other clubs who stake a claim.
