West Ham are reportedly interested in Burnley’s head of recruitment Martin Hodge, and they are also admirers of Sean Dyche.
After an incredible season at Turf Moor, it is little surprise that Burnley’s success is being looked at by some of their Premier League rivals, with recent reports linking West Ham with two of the Clarets’ most important figures.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported earlier this week that Burnley’s head of recruitment Martin Hodge is also on the Hammers’ radar following Tony Henry’s sacking. It remains to be seen whether either will end up at West Ham with Burnley now preparing for a Europa League campaign.
Should they manage to bring both men in, it would hardly be a surprise if a striker was right near the top of their wishlist with all of West Ham’s recognised forwards struggling for form and relying on Marko Arnautovic to provide the kind of goals that have been vital to keeping the Irons in the top flight.
Perhaps therefore, it may not be a shock if West Ham reignite their interest in Chris Wood given that the New Zealander has enjoyed an excellent first year with Burnley following his £15 million move from Leeds last summer – fee reported by BBC Sport.
The Daily Mirror reported in May 2017 that the Hammers were leading the race to sign Wood from the Whites. And they may be wishing that they had paid the fee to get him through the door given the struggles that their forwards have endured.
After scoring 27 Championship goals last season, Wood has found the back of the net 10 times in 24 league appearances, including three against the Irons.
He has not always proved to be the most reliable on the injury front, but he clearly has the potential to be a lethal goalscorer. And if West Ham do manage to get Dyche and Hodge through the door, perhaps it should shock no-one if Wood is immediately inserted as a top target for the Irons.
