The Baggies have reportedly turned their attention to Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
Sky Sports understands that West Bromwich Albion have shelved plans to move for Watford striker Troy Deeney as they close in on Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge.
Sturridge could complete his loan move to The Hawthorns until the end of the season on Tuesday, according to Sky Sports, after he chose Albion over Newcastle United.
With Jay Rodriguez finding form with five goals in his last six games, Sturridge’s arrival would mean that there would be no room for Deeney in West Brom’s forward ranks.
That could open the door for Stoke City, who the Daily Star reports are also monitoring Deeney as they aim to bolster a strike force which has relied on 36-year-old Peter Crouch for much of the season.
The Daily Star adds that the Hornets are happy to listen to offers for their long-serving captain, who has only started eight of the club’s Premier League matches thic campaign.
If Albion are able to keep Sturridge injury free, then they won’t think twice about missing out on Deeney but he could be a real assest for the relegation-threatened Potters.
The 29-year-old’s leadership qualities would be valuable to new manager Paul Lambert as his side battle against the drop, and he would also provide another goalscoring option with Saido Berahino misfiring and left out of the squad which beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 in Lambert’s debut match.
