West Bromwich Albion are the latest Premier League side to be linked with a move for Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong, after Everton and Brighton & Hove Albion.

But do the Baggies have at their disposal a secret weapon that could push them ahead of their rivals in the race to sign the Scotland international?

It was only last summer that Celtic had eyes on a West Brom player who, had he signed for the Bhoys, would have rivalled Armstrong for a place in Brendan Rodgers’ team.

Instead, James Morrison was denied a move to Celtic Park and remained a Baggies player, making 30 Premier League appearances throughout 2016-17.

Only 16 of those were from the start, however, and having turned 31 last week, Tony Pulis’ side may feel the time is right to upgrade on the former Middlesbrough player. Armstrong, who has had the season of his life for Celtic, would almost certainly do that.

That’s not to say, however, that Morrison is a worse player, and getting him in as well as a healthy fee for Armstrong could actually make Celtic stronger, if the money is put towards squad improvements of last summer’s ilk.
