West Bromwich Albion reportedly made a big-money move to try and sign Bradley Dack this summer.
It appears that West Brom attempted to really capture the imagination during the final hours of the transfer window, with The Sun on Sunday (02/09; page 59) reporting at the weekend that the Baggies attempted to sign Bojan after seeing a £15 million bid for Bradley Dack turned down by Blackburn Rovers.
West Brom would have only been able to sign Dack on loan initially, but were still willing to offer the eight-figure fee to try and get a deal across the line that would then be converted into a permanent move in January.
But Darren Moore was unable to get any players in during the final hours of the window. Instead, the last piece of transfer business involving the Baggies saw Nacer Chadli head to Monaco in a £10 million deal – fee reported by the Express and Star.
That suggests that it could be an exciting winter window for the club, and that may leave some supporters already considering who their potential targets may well end up being given that January can be a notoriously difficult time to get players in.
But perhaps something as simple as a look at the fixture list could provide an indication as to who West Brom may have at the top of their list of targets by the time 2019 arrives.
The Baggies’ first game of the new year is against Blackburn, the side who rejected the £15 million offer for Dack. It is difficult to imagine therefore, that if Dack plays in that game and ends up impressing for his current side, that West Brom will not show some interest in trying to get him to The Hawthorns at the second time of asking.
It seems likely that they will monitor the playmaker over the coming months, but perhaps his display on New Year’s Day could ultimately decide once and for all whether the club’s top target in January proves to be the man that they were prepared to pay £15 million for just one week ago.
