Tottenham Hotspur reportedly attempted to try and sign Tammy Abraham this summer, while Jack Grealish was also on their radar.

Tottenham’s bright start to the new Premier League season may have diffused much of the frustration that the supporters had following a very quiet summer for the club, but perhaps one Championship side may not help the discontent still lingering amongst some of the Spurs fans.

After months of speculation, Daniel Levy missed out on signing Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. Grealish seemed to be linked with Spurs almost from the moment that Fulham dashed Steve Bruce’s side’s hopes of getting promoted in the play-off final last season.

However, when Tottenham finally got round to bidding – The Telegraph reported in early August that they had just made their first bid worth £25 million – Villa were in a much better position financially and were able to resist all offers for the attacking midfielder.

The inability to get Grealish in seemed to be the key reason why Spurs’ window never ignited, but Goal reported after the window closed that Tottenham also missed out on Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham despite bidding £25 million for the youngster on deadline day.

Abraham’s future is still up in the air, but the Express and Star reported recently that Villa are keen to bring the England international to Villa Park on loan for the coming season.

If they manage to get a deal done therefore, perhaps it would be fair to say that Spurs fans may find watching the Villans frustrating for the rest of the season despite the fact that they are in separate divisions.

A possible partnership between Grealish and Abraham has the potential to be the best in the Championship. And while any success they may enjoy this term would obviously have not taken place to the same degree at Spurs had they both joined Mauricio Pochettino’s side, it may be difficult for Tottenham fans to avoid wondering what could have been further down the line if the pair do link up at Villa this year and form a brilliant partnership.
