Aston Villa go into their Championship clash with Sheffield Wednesday tomorrow (February 23) amidst something of an injury crisis.
As the Birmingham Mail reports, Albert Adomah, Jack Grealish and Andre Green have all picked up injuries this month and none will be available until March at the earliest.
Adomah and Grealish in particular have been crucial in the Villans’ impressive run of form since December 30 which saw them win seven successive league matches.
It is perhaps no coincidence that the run came to an end with a 2-0 defeat to Fulham and subsequent 1-1 home draw with Preston North End when the duo were absent.
Add into the mix the continued problems last season’s top-scorer Jonathan Kodjia has suffered with his ankle this term and recent promise of automatic promotion under manager Steve Bruce could be hindered by fitness issues.
Dropping four points in their last two games has seen Cardiff City move above Villa into second place by the same amount, while Derby County and the Cottagers are just one and four points behind respectively.
With a fully fit squad there are few teams in the second tier of English football who can compete with Bruce’s men, but could missing four key players see them fall behind in the race for the Premier League?
