There are a number of Leeds United fans who would not mind seeing Victor Orta leave Elland Road this summer.
It is fair to say that few people will know quite how passionate the Leeds supporters can be as well as Victor Orta probably does just one year into his time at Elland Road.
After an extremely busy summer in 2017, Orta was lauded by the supporters during the early stages of the season as the Whites topped the Championship table with a number of his signings taking little time to make an impact for the Yorkshire side. The likes of Samuel Saiz, Gjanni Alioski and Pierre-Michel Lasogga looked set to be inspired additions.
However, as the wheels came off Leeds’ season, the love for Orta’s work evaporated almost entirely and many of the fans would not mind if Andrea Radrizzani decided to get rid of the former Middlesbrough man as director of football. It is perhaps only his recruitment for the under-23s that deserves significant praise at this stage with Carlos Corberan’s men performing so well this past season.
But if this summer ends up panning out how Orta would seemingly want it to, there appears to be little reason why he may not be able to dramatically change the majority of supporters’ opinions once again.
Appointing Bielsa would be an incredible statement from Leeds. The 62-year-old is the kind of manager that will encourage an entire change in the culture at Elland Road, and that may not be a bad thing in some areas after the season the Whites ultimately endured.
And it is not just in the dug-out that Leeds are reportedly eyeing big changes. The Yorkshire Evening Post also recently reported that Kyle Bartley, Abel Hernandez, Angus Gunn and David Stockdale are four of the players that the club are chasing in the transfer market.
It seems doubtful that both of the goalkeepers will arrive, but signing Bartley, Hernandez and one of the stoppers would be fantastic business for Leeds with all of the players proven at Championship level and arguably boasting the potential to thrive in the Premier League in the right squad.
Orta had to focus on quality during these months after seemingly prioritising quantity during his first summer at Elland Road. And if he manages to oversee a window that sees Leeds appoint Bielsa and bring in Bartley and Hernandez and one of their goalkeeper targets, he may well head into next season as something of a hero.
His challenge is certainly to now make sure that the rumours and interest do lead to arrivals.
