Rangers are reportedly tracking Kieran Dowell ahead of the January window.

Rangers are reportedly interested in landing Everton playmaker Kieran Dowell in the January transfer window on loan as the Toffees start struggles to break into Marco Silva’s side – and they could find help from the unlikeliest of sources.
The Daily Mirror claimed earlier this week that 21-year-old Dowell is high on Steven Gerrard’s shortlist, with the Gers somewhat lacking in midfield.
Scott Arfield’s red card has highlighted a lack of options for Gerrard in the middle of the park, with only Ovie Ejaria, Jordan Rossiter and Lassana Coulibaly able to play the midfield role ahead of the holding midfielder.
Ryan Jack and Andy Halliday are considered holding midfielder, while Graham Dorrans remains on the sidelines. It sees Rangers linked with a move for Dowell, as well as similar types of midfielders in Lewis MacLeod and Steven Davis.
But Gerrard could receive a huge boost in the pursuit of Dowell from Austrian side RB Salzburg. That is because Everton are interested in signing Salzburg teenager Hannes Wolf in the January window.
The Mirror report that Everton are one of a number of Premier League sides keen on 19-year-old Wolf, with Southampton, Arsenal, Tottenham also said to be interested in the attacking midfielder.

His style of play is very similar to that of England youth international Dowell, and if the Toffees do indeed sign the highly-rated Austrian, then Dowell is only likely to drop further down the pecking order.
That may seem him become surplus to requirements at Everton – or indeed less likely to receive game time, boosting Rangers chances of luring Dowell to Ibrox.
Gerrard will be hoping, then, that Everton can win the race for Wolf’s signature, as it would give him and Rangers a better chance of landing Dowell.
