Leeds United’s Tyler Denton departed on loan as a left-back but could he return as an attacking quantity?

It was slow to get going but Tyler Denton is finally in the thick of things at Port Vale again.
The 22-year-old joined the League Two side on a season-long loan from Leeds United in the summer and despite falling out of favour in the middle of September, the talented youngster has started Vale’s last four games.

Interestingly, Denton, who is yet to manage a Championship game for Leeds, has not been playing in his usual left-back role in recent weeks – he has been on the left wing and continued starts there would suggest he is thriving in such a position.
The Whites have high hopes for him, evident by the fact he signed a new long-term contract just before being loaned out, but if he was good enough at left-back then he would have remained at Elland Road and would probably have made his Championship debut by now, given his age.

But it will be interesting to see whether Denton – who is managed by Leeds legend Ian Harte – returns to United next summer with the hope of re-modelling himself as an attacking outlet.
Of course, impressing as a winger in League Two means virtually nothing in terms of doing it in the Championship but it would give him another avenue to explore if, like this past summer, he has no chance of being in contention at left-back.
