Tottenham’s Kieran Trippier is in a rush to be fit for the season opener against Newcastle.

Poor Kieran Trippier surely cannot believe his luck after suffering an injury that looks set to rule him out of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League opener.

The England international has been patiently waiting for his chance behind Kyle Walker for Spurs and the 27-year-old’s departure to Manchester City looked to have granted him an opportunity.

However, Trippier hobbled out of a friendly win over Juventus last week and, according to the Telegraph, he will miss Sunday’s game against Newcastle United.

Tottenham lack a back-up option to Trippier and so may need to rush into the market to sign a replacement if Mauricio Pochettino wants to avoid pulling Eric Dier out of position every time his first-choice right-back is unavailable.

Yet if Spurs are to bring in a new man, he must be better than youth prospect Kyle Walker-Peters and capable of challenging Trippier, with Serge Aurier – in Le Parisien – and Joao Cancelo – in the Daily Mail – among those linked in recent weeks.

Were Tottenham able to bring in a player of that ilk, who would then start the season in the side, Trippier may again face a battle to win a regular place.

After his struggles to overcome Walker in previous campaigns, such a move could only come as a huge blow to the former Burnley defender.
