Tottenham Hotspur have impressed since switching to three centre-backs and they could continue that way when they take on West Ham United in the fourth round of the EFL Cup on Wednesday.

The only problem with playing that way week in, week out is it leaves fewer options in reserve, and it will be interesting to see who starts against the Hammers and who is given a well-earned rest.

Assuming Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino opts for some personnel changes while maintaining the same formation, Spurs fans could see two left-backs start, with Ben Davies playing as one of a central three and the recently returning Danny Rose operate further forward as a wing-back.

Davies knows that position well from his time with Wales and he could start alongside summer signing Juan Foyth and one other from Davinson Sanchez, Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.

That would allow Tottenham to play the same way while giving some of their regular starters a breather.

It could also give Rose his first start since returning from injury, allowing the England international to repair the damage on the field that his ill-judged interview caused off it.

Tottenham will want to continue in all four competitions this season, knowing that silverware is getting ever closer for this talented group of players, but a few amendments along the way will be necessary and Pochettino has the squad to do just that.
