Should Tottenham Hotspur move for the recently released Razvan Rat?

When West Ham signed Pablo Armero on loan from Napoli on deadline day, the news they released Razvan Rat almost slipped under the radar.

A free signing from Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer, Rat arrived with extensive Champions League experience, playing 40 games in the competition and currently has 92 international caps for Romania.

Currently searching for a new club, Rat has been linked to Marseille, but would there be a side closer to his previous one who would be perfect for him?

Tottenham Hotspur possess just one senior left-back in Danny Rose, who himself was out on loan last season, and Zeki Fryers yet to be proven capable in the Premier League.

Razvan Rat made 15 appearances for the Hammers, so just how does he compare to Rose and should Tottenham be interested in signing him as capable back-up?

While there are areas where Rose is vastly superior; passing accuracy and dribbling, Razvan Rat certainly holds his own in others compared to the Tottenham man.

Signing him on a free transfer would certainly be shrewd business by Spurs, the same team who snapped up a free agent Ryan Nelsen just two years ago.

A position of weakness especially if Rose were to get injured, signing the Romanian international as cover should at least be something Tim Sherwood should consider now the transfer window is closed.
