Arsenal and Tottenham duo could be England’s best combination.

England’s drab World Cup qualifying fixtures have shown the nation that it is not much fun winning while playing boring football.
Ultimately a midfield of Eric Dier and Jordan Henderson will be exposed by a technically superior team, and the Three Lions need to find alternative midfield options, which don’t include Jake Livermore.
One exciting option has suddenly emerged, with Tottenham star Harry Winks the best player on the pitch against Lithuania.
But that is just half the puzzle solved.

Arguably his best midfield partner, if England and Arsenal can get him fit, is Jack Wilshere.
Winks and Wilshere are rivals at club level, but at international football they could be a dynamic force together.
Tottenham ace Winks is happier sitting deep, while Wilshere can take the ball forward and offer options with his movement and quality in possession.

The partnership would depend on Winks getting regular football at club level, and Wilshere too getting a run in the Arsenal side and staying healthy.
The attacking nature of the duo would help feed the likes of Raheem Sterling, Dele Alli, Marcus Rashford and Harry Kane, and make England an exciting team to watch once again.
Whether they would ultimately be good enough to win the World Cup is a big ask, but with Winks and Wilshere, England would go down swinging, as opposed to getting beat playing boring football.
The bigger question is whether manager Gareth Southgate is willing to try it.
