Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a mega deal to bring back former star Gareth Bale.

Diario Gol report Spurs are keen on signing Bale, who is being lined up for a Madrid exit this summer.

But what if Tottenham showed some real ambition and tried to get the deal done now?

It would be more difficult, but there are reasons why Spurs should consider moving early.

Why it could happen

Tottenham Hotspur's Argentinian head coach Mauricio Pochettino shouts instructions to his players from the touchline during the English Premier League football match between Arsenal and...

Mauricio Pochettino issued a public call to chairman Daniel Levy to act quicker in the transfer market, and get deals done this January.

He cited the World Cup and early closure of the transfer window as reasons to act quicker ahead of next summer.

Levy signing Bale early would be a perfect response to his head coach.

Tottenham Hotspur Chairman Daniel Levy looks on during the Barclays Premier League match between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton at White Hart Lane on August 29, 2015 in London, England.

For Bale it would be hugely beneficial considering his injury problems.

Forget this season, tying up a deal now would ensure Bale is signed ahead of pre-season, and can prepare properly and adjust to Mauricio Pochettino’s training methods and fitness demands.

Bale has always publicly affirmed his loyalty to Spurs above any other English club, and if he realises it’s time up at the Bernabeu, why hang around?

Why it is a long shot

While doing an early deal would allow Real to get organised ahead of next summer, they are under no financial pressure to sell in January.

Selling a player they signed for £86 million is always going to be a big risk, and Real might want to wait until the end of the season to see if Bale can regain form and fitness and show that the La Liga giants should keep him.

It is also impossible for Bale to play in the Champions League as he would be cup-tied, and the Welshman may not want to give up on another chance of a medal with Real Madrid.

Also with stadium work ongoing, Spurs may not want to commit big money in January in case costs of the project rise over the final few months before it is due to be completed.
