Could Tottenham be a week away from losing Nathan Oduwa for nothing?

The Tottenham Hotspur player is nearing the end of his contract and a first-team breakthrough looks no closer.

Back in May, Sky Sports claimed Tottenham Hotspur winger Nathan Oduwa had refused to sign a new contract in the hope of attracting another club with a star showing at the Olympics.

The problem was, Oduwa was not ultimately selected by Nigeria and eight months on his situation at White Hart Lane does not look good.

With less than a week remaining in the current transfer window, there is the distinct possibility that the 20-year-old will either be sold in the final throes of deadline day or, more likely, leave for nothing in the summer.

That could still see Oduwa move to a club where he will fulfil his potential, but it could be a blow for Tottenham after they developed his talent only to see him reject their offer of a new contract in the hope of better things to come.

It could also be a decision Oduwa comes to regret if he never again features for a top side.

After all, while the wide man has had a number of loan spells – his time at Rangers the best of the bunch before it was caught short – many other Tottenham youngsters have being called into Mauricio Pochettino’s senior side and excelled as a consequence.

Harry Winks, Josh Onomah and Cameron Carter-Vickers are the most notable, with big things expected of Kyle Walker-Peters and Marcus Edwards in due course. So perhaps Tottenham will not be too disappointed to lose Oduwa for nothing after all.

They have plenty of youthful talent willing to commit to the club, whereas Oduwa may soon find his options are somewhat limited.
