Pieros Sotiriou won the Cypriot league’s Player of the Season award under current Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen last season.

The goals have dried up of late for Leeds United. Thomas Christiansen’s defence has looked increasingly wobbly during a run of six defeats in seven games in all competitions but the attack isn’t exactly living up to its end of the bargain either right now.
Pierre-Michel Lasogga (below) scored in Tuesday’s 2-1 home defeat to Derby County but the German’s performances have looked a little lifeless of late. Meanwhile, with Jay-Roy Grot yet to really make his mark and Caleb Ekuban still on the sidelines, there’s not a whole host of alternative options at Christiansen’s disposal.

Leeds fans may be counting down the days until the January transfer window swings open and allows director of football Victor Orta to find some much needed firepower. And if Christiansen has his say, a player who scored for fun under his tutelage at Apoel could come in handy.
Familiar face
Christiansen won his first title as a manager in Cyprus last season when leading Apoel to the First Division crown. And the form of prolific striker Pieros Sotiriou certainly helped.
The Cypriot international tallied a hugely impressive 21 goals in the top flight and 27 in all competitions across 2016/17, a deserved winner of the league’s Player of the Season award.

In the following summer, Sotiriou earned a £2 million move to Danish side FC Copenhagen and has continued his purple patch in style with seven goals in 12 league starts.
Though this should not stop Leeds from attempting to reunite Sotiriou with Christiansen in the January transfer window.
The 6ft 1ins striker would cost Leeds a far chunk of their mid-season budget considering that he only joined Copenhagen a few months ago but the fee would pale into insignificance if the 24-year-old can spearhead Leeds’ promotion push.
