Leeds United look to be on course to finish higher than Norwich City for the first time in over a decade, so should their former captain be on their radar?
Jonny Howson
When Jonny Howson left Leeds for Norwich City in January 2012, it seemed clear to most Whites fans that the club’s apparent lack of ambition was a key reason for the academy graduate and club captain to make the switch to Carrow Road.
The Canaries were in the Premier League at the time and on their way to a safe mid-table finish in the division, while Leeds were about to begin a run of five consecutive bottom-half finishes in the Championship.
It was hardly surprising that Howson decided that a switch to Norwich was the best move for his career five years ago. But with Leeds now on course to finish above Norwich for the first time in more than a decade – they sit five places and 12 points above them with nine games to go – this summer may be the perfect time to offer Howson the opportunity to come back to Elland Road.
The 28-year-old has been one of the best performers for currently managerless Norwich this term, having contributed six goals and five assists in the league.
Meanwhile, Leeds stand an excellent chance of reaching the play-offs this season, and could finally end their exile from the top flight 13 years after their relegation.

Howson is a player who boasts Premier League experience, and could certainly bolster Garry Monk’s options all over the midfield, whether that be in the holding role – where he has predominantly played for the Canaries this term – or further forward as the number 10 or even in a slightly wider position.
And at 28, he should still have a few years left at the top of his game, so could be an extremely valuable first-team regular that potentially helps the side re-establish themselves at the highest level should they reach the promised land this summer.
