If Celtic are to progress, do they need a new goalkeeper?

Craig Gordon’s comeback story is underrated as one of the greatest revivals in recent football history.
Celtic took a chance on him three summers ago and he has revived his career and reclaimed his international place.
He has been a regular in Brendan Rodgers’ record setting side, but his performances have not been as faultless as Celtic’s dominant record suggests.

Gordon’s intermittent mistakes have sparked a public spat with pundit Chris Sutton, and last week’s error in the Champions League was his most high profile yet.
The goalkeeper played a key role in Kingsley Coman scoring the winner for Bayern Munich in a home defeat which ended Celtic’s hopes of qualification to the knockout rounds.

Celtic have big ambitions to get better and become a Champions League force – and the goalkeeper position is an obvious one where they can upgrade.
Gordon is 34 and there is no need to get rid of him as he could still be an important squad player for two or three seasons to come.
But next summer should be the time for Celtic to make a move for his long term successor, one who can help the team hit new heights.
