The Spanish stopper is on loan at Tottenham Hotspur until the summer.
The international break is universally hated by football fans desperate to watch their club in action rather than a bunch of uninspiring qualifying matches and pointless friendlies, but for one Tottenham Hotspur player in particular, it could be just what he needs.
Pau Lopez moved to Spurs on loan from Espanyol in the summer but he is yet to play a single minute for the first-team, instead making do with a few substitute appearances and some runouts for the under-23s.
However, with Hugo Lloris off on international duty with France, Lopez could use the next few days to convince Mauricio Pochettino that he should be signed permanently in the summer.
Tottenham have that option, yet it looks like it will be Lopez’s work on the training field rather than the pitch that makes or breaks the deal.
If Michel Vorm moves on this summer it will allow Lopez to step up as Tottenham’s number two and get chances in the cup competitions.
However that will only happen if he convinces Pochettino to splash the cash and it is weeks like this, when the training ground is far less crowded, that could clinch it.
