Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is reportedly on Aston Villa’s radar, and the Championship side are apparently planning an approach.

The Villans are still looking for Steve Bruce’s successor. And while Rodgers has previously distanced himself from taking the job, some Hoops supporters may perhaps be slightly concerned by the rumours.
It remains to be seen if Villa do indeed make an approach or whether Rodgers actually has any interest in leaving his job at Parkhead. But if the events play out how the Villa board reportedly want them to and Rodgers ends up taking the job, then perhaps predicting his first signing for the club may not be too difficult a task.
While Rodgers may be content to wait until January to make a first signing if he did take the job, he would win a lot of fans amongst the Villa faithful by acting quickly to address a key issue with the current squad.

Villa look as good as anyone going forward, but they are desperately short of options at centre-back, and leaving the squad as it is until January may perhaps be a gamble.
One player that has previously been on Rodgers’ radar at Celtic is Steven Caulker. Sky Sports reported earlier this year that the defender rejected the Hoops in 2017.

Caulker has since enjoyed a very good spell with Dundee, but is once again a free agent. And that saw the one-time England international come onto Bruce’s radar before his departure.
West London Sport reported last month that Villa were interested in bringing Caulker in on trial. Given that he currently remains on the market therefore and that club and manager have both been keen, perhaps the smart money would suggest that he is the most likely candidate to end up proving to be Rodgers’ first signing should he decide to surprise many and swap Celtic for the Villans.
