Newcastle United’s Jonjo Shelvey fell out of first-team contention last season as he will be looking to make his mark ahead of the new Premier League campaign.

It is fair to say that Jonjo Shelvey has been a bit of an enigma at Newcastle United.
On his day, he can wow the crowd with effortless performances from the middle of the park, but there are other occasions where he looks as anonymous as Mike Ashley making a big-money signing.
Despite being touted for a move away from St James’ Park this summer, Shelvey insisted that he isn’t going ‘anywhere’ and is planning on staying at Newcastle ahead of the new Premier League campaign, as quoted by the Chronicle.
With the appointment of Steve Bruce as Newcastle’s new manager on Wednesday, could the experienced Englishman get the best out of the 27-year-old midfielder?
Bruce’s arrival at the club hasn’t been well received from those in the North East, but regardless of what happens with the club, Shelvey may just benefit from the former Sheffield Wednesday boss joining the club.
Shelvey started just 10 Premier League games under Rafa Benitez last season [transfermarkt], with the emergence of Sean Longstaff playing a part in his lack of game time.

There have been many occasions where a player that hardly featured the season before has all of a sudden become a key figure for the new man who has just walked through the doors.
Benitez did initially get the best out of Shelvey, but that fuse was cut last season, as Bruce’s arm around the shoulder might just re-ignite the fire in Shelvey’s game.
If he can do that then it’ll boost Newcastle’s chances of producing the goods next season and staying up because he would then provide much-needed attacking quality from the middle of the park.
