Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris could now remain in north London this summer.
That is according to journalist Fabrice Hawkins.
He recently reported on Twitter that Hugo Lloris has turned down a two-year contract proposal with an option of another 12 months from Lazio and that the Frenchman “could stay at Tottenham” now as a result.
Lloris had been looking to leave Tottenham, making that clear in an interview with Nice-Matin back in June.
“I have desires for other things. I will ask myself quietly to study what will be possible,” the 36-year-old told the French newspaper.
Leaving Tottenham should still be Hugo Lloris’ priority
There seems little point of Lloris staying at Tottenham now. It could prove to be a waste of a year in his career, which is reaching its end now.
Spurs have already replaced the World Cup winner, bringing in Guglielmo Vicario from Empoli.
It is unlikely that Lloris will be able to reclaim his No.1 spot, with Vicario already impressing in a Tottenham shirt.

The 26-year-old kept a clean sheet in his side’s 2-0 win over Manchester United last weekend and has already made 10 saves in the Premier League, which is the third most in the top flight (FBref).
Lloris has been a great servant to Tottenham, but the north London club have now moved on from the £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) shot-stopper.
Ultimately, then, it is probably best if the former Lyon man left Ange Postecoglou’s side before September’s transfer deadline.
You cannot really see a way back into the team for him after Vicario’s arrival. And again, to spend a whole campaign sitting on the bench when he may have to retire soon would just be a waste.
The career of a footballer is short and Lloris will surely want to make most of the time he has left in the game.
