Could Spurs use Carter-Vickers in deal for Sheffield United’s Brooks?

Tottenham are reported to be interested in David Brooks so could they offer Cameron Carter-Vickers to tempt Sheffield United into selling?

Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing David Brooks from Sheffield United, according to the Sun, with a £10m plus extras deal expected to be offered.

Spurs view Brooks as a long-term replacement for striker Harry Kane, despite the fact the 20-year-old has played as an attacking midfielder for the Blades this season.

Chris Wilder has since issued a hands-off warning to the Premier League club as he looks to build his United team of the future.

“Spurs are a solid club and they do things the right way,” Wilder told the Sheffield Star. “Some clubs don’t. Some go through the back door and via an agent or to senior level to put them in a position.

“But my view is that David won’t be going anywhere as far as I’m concerned. One hundred per cent, I want to build. It’s disrespectful to say we want to build it around him because he’s a young kid but we want to build it with him.”

Potential makeweight?

Tottenham could take a different approach if they are keen on signing Brooks and offer the youngster’s side one of their own players in exchange as part of any potential deal.

In this scenario the obvious candidate would be Cameron Carter-Vickers, who spent the first half of this season on loan at Bramall Lane, playing 18 games in all competitions, before being recalled in January and sent to Ipswich Town.

Still only 20-years-old, Carter-Vickers looks to be a decent player at Championship level and someone who could improve a lot in the future, but is perhaps still some way from Mauricio Pochettino’s first team plans.
