Tottenham Hotspur will be heading into another summer transfer window where they will be hoping to keep their key players at the club, having lost Kyle Walker to Manchester City last summer.

Whilst Harry Kane and Dele Alli appear fairly settled, there are concerns over the futures of both Danny Rose and Toby Alderweireld, who are being linked with moves away this summer.

Rose has previously admitted his desire to return to the north of England having been born in Doncaster and started out his career with Leeds United, whilst Alderweireld hasn’t signed a new contract and has a £25million release clause which can be activated in 2019.

The Mirror report that Manchester United are one of the teams pursuing Alderweireld’s signature this summer, whilst the Daily Star claim that Jose Mourinho has identified Rose as Luke Shaw’s replacement.

A double deal for the Spurs pair could cost around £100million or even more, and the possibility of a double swap deal shouldn’t be ruled out given Tottenham’s interest in two fringe United players.

It’s claimed in the Star’s report about Rose that Spurs hold an interest in United left back Shaw, given that he worked with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino at Southampton, and can fill straight in for Rose.

Additionally, RMC Sport claim that Spurs are interested in United forward Anthony Martial, whose future is somewhat unclear after the arrival Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January.

If United come calling for both Rose and Alderweireld, then Spurs should at least ask the question about a double swap deal involving Shaw and Martial heading to North London, even if swap deals are notoriously difficult anyway, and even more so if four players are involved.

Shaw is a ready-made replacement for Rose, whilst Martial can provide another boost to Pochettino’s attack amid links to Malcom and Wilfried Zaha, and whilst it may be audacious and almost unthinkable, Tottenham must stand firm on their key players and get great deals for both – possibly receiving players in exchange.
