Southampton take on Stoke City this weekend and the teenager deserves a run-out.
With little left to play for this season, Southampton manager Claude Puel may be wise to give some of the club’s next generation a run-out in the weekend clash against Stoke City.
One such player is exciting attacker Olufela Olomola; a 19-year-old who has made the bench for two Premier League matches this season but whose only first-team action came in the EL Cup against Sunderland back in October.
Olomola is a striker-cum-winger who is equally comfortable in either position, and when you consider he has played his last six matches for Southampton’s under-23 side from the right, that could be the best position for Puel to try him if he is willing.
Southampton have a number of exciting young players coming through the ranks and they have never been afraid to blood them when they are deemed ready.
With nothing riding on it, the match against Stoke on Sunday is the perfect stage for some new faces to introduce themselves to the St Mary’s faithful.
It is one thing throwing a young prospect in at the deep end when three points are vital, and quite another quietly allowing them to bed in when all that is up for grabs is pride.
Only time will tell what Puel has in mind, but if he does want to give some Southampton youngsters a chance, Olomola is surely near the front of the queue.
