Galatasaray are set to sign West Ham winger Sofiane Feghouli, meaning Sunderland’s Wahbi Khazri faces an uncertain future.
With Sofiane Feghouli seemingly set to depart after just one season, the upside for West Ham supporters is that their club will at least emerge from a disappointing transfer deal with a profit in their pockets.
According to Football London, West Ham have agreed to sell the Algerian international to Galatasaray for around £4.5 million and the deal will be completed once they come to an agreement over a signing on fee.
Feghouli failed to replicate his Valencia form at West Ham
Considering that Feghouli managed just 11 Premier League starts in 2016/17, and just three goals, his departure won’t be met with too much concern from supporters. Especially as they will earn a decent fee from a player they signed on a free from Valencia 12 months ago.
However, this could have ramifications for Sunderland’s transfer plans. Fotospor claimed last month that Wahbi Khazri was on Galatasaray’s exhaustive shortlist this summer, but it remains to be seen whether the Turkish giants would still be willing to offer him an escape from the Stadium of Light if Feghouli completes his deal.
Khazri, who barely featured under David Moyes last season despite Sunderland crying out for creativity, will be allowed to leave this summer, new manager Simon Grayson said in quotes reported by The Chronicle.
However, with Financial Fair Play restrictions limiting Galatasaray’s ability to spend big this summer, Sunderland may be forced to find a new buyer with a deal for Feghouli close.
Khazri made a major impact as Sam Allardyce’s side pulled of a great escape in 2016
Though Khazri could come in handy for a Sunderland side needing attacking reinforcements, the winger stated recently that he does not want to play Championship football next season, as reported by The Chronicle.
Therefore, Sunderland would be better served cashing in and using the money to reinvest in the squad.
